Privacy Policy

Newsqora is currently operated by an individual founder based in Spain, not yet a registered company. The data controller responsible for the processing described here is that individual: Alessandra Rinaldo (“Newsqora”, “we”), operator of the Newsqora application and of newsqora.com. The GDPR applies in full notwithstanding that the controller is an individual rather than a company.

Newsqora is built to collect only what the service genuinely needs. During the beta, signing in with Google is required to use Newsqora: an account is necessary to save your investigations to folders, keep your history, sync across your devices, and let us provide support. Through Google sign-in we receive your name, email address, and profile photo.

Separately, screenshots are processed on your device and are never uploaded, and any usage analytics is optional and opt-in; see Analytics below.

During the beta, signing in is required, so we process:

• Account identity. Through Google sign-in we receive your name, email address, and profile photo, together with sign-in timestamps, to identify your account.
• The claim or text you submit. The wording you choose to fact-check, sent for analysis to produce a sourced answer.
• Saved investigations. Verifications and folders you choose to save, stored under your account.
• Anonymous usage analytics. Privacy-preserving, aggregate usage statistics with no advertising identifiers, processed only if you give separate, optional consent (see Analytics below). Declining analytics does not affect your use of the app.

We process each category for a specific purpose and on a specific legal basis under Article 6 GDPR:

• Providing the service (Google sign-in, processing your submitted claim, storing and syncing your saved investigations): performance of our agreement with you (Art. 6(1)(b)). An account is necessary to deliver these features during the beta.
• Usage analytics: your separate, optional consent (Art. 6(1)(a)). This is never bundled with sign-in; you may decline it and still use the app, and withdraw it at any time.
• Security and abuse prevention: our legitimate interest in keeping the service safe and reliable (Art. 6(1)(f)).

Any analytics used in the app is privacy-preserving and aggregate, and uses no advertising identifiers. It is enabled only after you give consent, never by default. You may withdraw consent at any time in the app settings, after which no further non-essential analytics is collected. The marketing website newsqora.com sets no cookies and uses no third-party trackers.

When you check a screenshot, the text is read from the image (OCR) entirely on your device. The image itself is never uploaded to us or to any third party. Only the resulting claim or text that you choose to verify leaves your device.

To produce a sourced answer, the text you submit is processed by Google’s Gemini models on Vertex AI. This is used solely to retrieve and summarise real sources and to generate the graded response. Your submissions are not used to train AI models, and are not used to build an advertising profile of you.

Separately from any analytics, and not governed by the optional analytics opt-in, Newsqora keeps one anonymous quality record for each fact-check result. We use it to check and improve how well our confidence assessments match reality.

Each record contains only:

• the confidence band shown (for example, “Well supported”);
• the model’s internal confidence value;
• how many sources were found and how many agreed;
• the software version and a timestamp.

It never contains:

• your name, email, or account;
• any device identifier, not even a hashed one;
• what you searched, or the result text.

Because it holds no identifier and no content, it cannot be linked back to you or to your saved investigations.

Purpose and legal basis. These records are used only to measure and improve the accuracy and safety of Newsqora’s confidence assessments; never for advertising or profiling, and they are not sold or shared. Because a record contains no personal identifier or content, it is anonymous; where such a record is nonetheless treated as personal data, we rely on our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) in measuring and improving the quality and safety of the service.

Storage and retention. Stored in the EU (Google Firestore, europe-west1), consistent with the rest of Newsqora’s data, and kept for up to 12 months, after which it is automatically deleted.

Your rights. Because these records carry no identifier, they cannot be tied to an individual, so they are not part of an account-deletion or data-access request (there is nothing to look up). We use the following processors, who process data on our behalf under data-processing terms:

• Google Cloud / Firebase (EU, Belgium): hosting, database, and the back-end service that stores saved investigations.
• Google Vertex AI (EU): processing of the submitted claim with Gemini to generate a sourced answer.
• Google authentication service (United States): account identity and sign-in, under EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

We are deliberately precise about where your data is processed, and we do not claim that everything stays in the EU.

In the EU (Google Cloud, Belgium). Your saved investigations and the database, the AI fact-checking (Google Gemini on Vertex AI), and the back-end service all run in the EU. The text or screenshot content you submit is processed in the EU and is never sent to the authentication service.

In the United States (Google authentication service, under EU Standard Contractual Clauses). Only your account identity is handled here: your Google name, email address, profile photo, and sign-in timestamps. The content you submit is never sent to this service.

Analytics data, where you have consented, may also be processed by Google outside the EU. These transfers are governed by Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission, together with the supplementary measures applied by the relevant Google services.

Saved investigations are retained until you delete them, or for no longer than is necessary for the private beta after your last activity, whichever is sooner. Text submitted for analysis is retained only as long as needed to produce and return an answer, plus a short period thereafter for security and reliability. We keep data for the shortest period the beta requires; specific periods will be confirmed at general release.

You can delete individual investigations or folders at any time in the app. To delete all data associated with your account, use the in-app deletion option or contact us. For step-by-step instructions, see Delete your account and data.

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, objection to processing, and data portability. To exercise any of these, contact hello@newsqora.com.

Because access requires Google sign-in, we can identify your data through your account, which makes these requests straightforward to honour. To exercise any right, contact us using the details above.

If you believe your data has been handled unlawfully, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority (Data Protection Authority) in the EU/EEA country where you live or work.

Newsqora is not directed to children. It is intended for users who meet the minimum age required in their country to consent to data processing. We do not knowingly collect data from children below that age; if you believe this has occurred, contact us and we will delete it.

We may update this policy as the service evolves or as legal review concludes. Material changes will be posted here with a revised effective date. Effective date: 24 June 2026.
